Greg & Mahsa | Virginia Tech Duck Pond Proposal

When Greg emailed me to ask about photographing his proposal at the duck pond at Virginia Tech, I was so excited! Nathan and I even went out a couple days before to scout out the location and find my hiding spot. Greg and Mahsa were driving down from Northern Virginia to visit her alma mater. Greg thought VT would be the perfect place to ask Mahsa to marry him, even though they have a rivalry going because he went to James Madison University.

The day of the shoot, I got to the duck pond early...pacing the agreed upon location to make sure no one snatched it up. Surprisingly there were tons of people that day so I was blocking the spot. When Greg texted that he had arrived, I ran to my hiding spot in the a huge pine tree and waited.

The rest is history. Greg pulled out the ring and Mahsa was shocked! It was so sweet.

Oh, these two! I just loved spending the afternoon walking around Pandapas Pond in Blacksburg,VA and then driving with them over to Johns Creek. The mountain views and wide open fields in Johns Creek are amazing. When Nathan and I had just started college, we would pack a picnic and take our homework out there, because homework and picnics are much better enjoyed when out in nature with the one you love.

Morgan and Aaron are the sweetest couple. I just loved the way the interacted with one another. I could have shot this session for days! We drove around several places with mountain views, counted tons of deer, and watched the set I can't wait to shoot their May wedding next year, it is going to be a good one y'all!

This picture to the left? Yeah, possibly a new all-time FAVORITE! I love it.

Taylor & Brandon | Glen Alton Fall Engagement

It's been a couple years since I've had these two in front of my camera and I must say that I was so excited to have them back. Taylor and Brandon got engaged this summer while on vacation to the beach and now they are planning their big day for July of 2016.

When Taylor told me where she wanted to shoot their engagement pictures...I jumped at the chance! It is one of mine and Nathan's favorite places! Somehow we always tend to gravitate towards it. True story: Nathan and I were headed to Hot Springs to Falling Springs Falls a few weeks ago. Left home, headed towards Roanoke and we to the falls. Instead of retracing our steps to return home...we went out of the way to go by Glen Alton. We just end up there.

Its a little hidden gem! Beautiful pond, old farm house, walking trails and a neat little swamp area that is different for this part of Virginia. But I had such a great time with Taylor and Brandon, even if it was chilly and Taylor had to break out a blanket between shots.

This fall-like engagement session seemed appropriate for the first day of fall. I hope you enjoy.

Man, oh man! I loved this engagement session with Maggie and Austin. As two Radford University students they met on campus and the rest they say is history. After work one day, they were planning a “date night” and Austin mentioned that he wanted to go to the park. They walked down by the river and in a huge tree hanging over the water, Austin had carved “Will you marry me?” into the tree. That carving is still there so what better way to start their engagement portraits than where their engagement truly began?

The engagement session was full of sentimental locations. The tree where they got engaged, the bench where they shared their first kiss, and on the campus where they first met. I can’t wait to shoot their wedding next may at Fariss Farms in Allisonia VA.

I've been so excited to shoot this Crossfit engagement session in Roanoke! This isn't normally my style or normal engagement session but I loved getting to hang out with Carly and Gabriel at the gym. Since they hit gym everyday, they thought it would be fitting to workout for their engagement portraits. I even had them take pictures in a field of old, rather large tires...a.k.a. another part of their workout routine.

Carly said during their session that their hearts were in lifting and Crossfit gave them the ability to mix that with other abilities. So what better way to celebrate their love for each other, other than what they find so much joy in doing together?

Carly and Gabriel will be getting married this September at The Kyle House in Fincastle, VA. It will be my first wedding there and I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to it! I've already got to see a "sneak peek" of Carly's wedding dress...wow, you guys! It is gorgeous. Can't wait to share.

Layla & William | A Blacksburg VA Engagement Session

Ever since Layla and William came out on a snow day with to shoot a snowy couples session, I have wanted to get them back in front of my camera! We've had their engagement session on the books for a couple months and I've been so looking forward to it. Plus, I'm really excited to shoot their wedding next summer at Doe Creek Farm in Pembroke,VA.
We started their engagement portrait session at Virginia Tech and then headed to Heritage Park just down the road. I like both locations, but I could have shot at the park for days! The light here at dusk was AMAZING

A few months back when I launched my new brand, I hosted an Instagram giveaway. Kaity entered and she won! Let me just tell you...I'm so glad she did. I had a great time with her and Mike for their engagement session.

I told them of a place that I had been wanting to shoot at for quite some time and agreed that they too would like to try it. Both of them were up for anything...walking through tall grass, walking over sketchy bridges, they didn't mind a bit.

Kaity and I went to elementary school together and now we are both RU gradates and she is getting ready for her wedding in a little over a week. Once her and Mike are wed, they will be moving to Maryland...which is where Mike is from.

Even though I won't be shooting their wedding, I wish them both the best! May your wedding day be everything you've dreamt of, your move easy and your new lives together blissful and happy!

I am so behind on blogging right now…so I figured it was time to introduce you to Kayla and Jordan. I met with them both at Starbucks a couple months back to talk about their June wedding and I just loved talking to them. They got engaged in February and are planning their wedding for just two short months from now.

We walked around downtown Pulaski, VA next to the old brick buildings and alleyways. I haven’t shot there in years and we nice to go back and shoot with a fresh perspective. Second up, we went to a brand new location for me. Although I have known about it my whole life and spied it from afar, Ingles Castle is right on the New River in Radford, VA. Kayla and Jordan joked that I can make them a card that said “Our New Home”. Once you see it, you’ll understand why.

I was so happy to be able to shoot these two again (see their first section with me here). I met Nicole when we were both at Radford University and now she is engaged! Nicole and Mark are getting married in September and I'm so excited to be able to shoot their fall wedding. We started off their engagement session at the Roanoke Star and then moved to Mark's parents home in Salem. The lighting was beautiful and I had such a fun time with these two...except two growling/barking dogs! Believe me, I'm not one to shy away from dogs but I got nervous. Luckily Mark shooed them away.

Laura & TJ | Mountain Lake Engagement Session: Pembroke, VA

I first got Laura’s email about the possibility of shooting their 2015 September wedding a couple months ago. I always ask a few simple questions to all inquiries to get an idea of location, theme and of course…how he asked! I got her response on a somewhat dreary Monday and as I told her later, it really did brighten my day. I love, LOVE proposal stories, so I going to tell you theirs. Laura and T.J. love to play trivia and as she told me, he loves any type of trivia game. A couple times a month they hang out with the friends at a local restaurant that has a “trivia night”, perfect for them, right? Anyways, they got through the first round when they announced a “bonus question” which read “Will Laura Marry T.J.?” I mean, seriously?! I think that is adorable. When she turned around he was on one knee while their close friends watched as she said “YES” and now, here we are.

It is kind of fitting that I shot their engagement portraits this past weekend and are sharing them this week, because I am shooting a wedding at their venue (Doe Creek Farm) on Saturday. I haven’t shot there before and I am so excited to see Emily and JC get married and to see Laura and T.J.’s venue…FINALLY!

Two weeks ago, we tried to shoot their engagement pictures but if anyone has been to Mountain Lake in Pembroke, VA then you know that sometimes the weather is different up there. On Rt. 460 it was pretty and the sun was shining. I got to the top of the mountain and it was foggy and rainy, so we rescheduled and I am so glad we did.
